Getting to know Fountain City
Fountain City began as a resort and church-campground destination in the 1800s and grew into one of the largest communities in Tennessee before Knoxville annexed it in the early 1960s — and it has never let go of its small-town identity inside the city.
Its landmarks are genuinely beloved: the heart-shaped Fountain City Lake (the “duck pond”) at the foot of the community, Fountain City Park with its ballfields and pavilions just up the hill, and a historic commercial district along Broadway where local businesses have traded for generations. The Fountain City Lions Club and other civic groups still run community events that draw crowds from well beyond the neighborhood.
Homes range from historic cottages near the lake to mid-century ranches and traditional two-stories on the tree-lined streets that climb toward Black Oak Ridge.
