Getting to know Sequoyah Hills

Sequoyah Hills was laid out in the 1920s as one of Knoxville’s early planned suburbs, and a century of growth has given it what new neighborhoods can’t buy: a mature tree canopy, winding boulevards, and a collection of period Tudor, Colonial and architect-designed homes between Kingston Pike and the Tennessee River.

The neighborhood’s signature is Cherokee Boulevard — a broad parkway with a walking path running down its grassy median, used daily by walkers and runners from all over the city. It leads to Sequoyah Park on the riverbank, with open fields, playgrounds and boat access, and the smaller Talahi Park with its distinctive stone fountain and pillars from the original 1920s development.

For everything else, the neighborhood leans on its neighbors: Bearden’s restaurant row is minutes north, the University of Tennessee campus and downtown are a short drive east, and the whole area sits inside the city’s greenway network.

Getting around

Minutes to downtown Knoxville and the University of Tennessee via Kingston Pike or Cherokee Boulevard; I-40 access via Papermill/Northshore.
